Saskatoon Berries

Saskatoon berries are plants that are relatively unknown in our region. They grow naturally in North America, from Alaska to Utah, and are exceptionally hardy in winter.

The word Saskatoonberry comes from the Native American term for this shrub, meaning something like “berries of the bush with many branches.” They are also known as Canadian blueberries.

Saskatoon berry plants of the Saskablue® variety produce very early harvests, generally as early as their second year, and it’s not uncommon for the shoots to bend to the ground under the weight of the fruit clusters. These are tall shrubs, reaching up to 250 cm in height, forming beautiful and dense canopies. The trees have white flowers, and their berries are dark purple with a delicious almond flavor that will surprise you. Their purple color denotes their properties and benefits, as Saskatoon berries are characterized by their high content of iron, fiber, and anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants.

They are harvested in late June and July.
