What are the BBVA and Celler de Can Roca awards?
The BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca Awards are among the most prestigious recognitions in Spain’s agri-food sector. Every year, they honour the country’s leading organic producers and the most outstanding initiatives in environmental sustainability. In the 2026 edition, Blueberries Cierrón (Arándanos el Cierrón) was selected as one of the ten national winners.
Through these awards, BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca aim to highlight the importance of the agri-food sector by increasing the visibility of local and organic producers while recognising projects that excel in environmental sustainability, community impact, and innovation.
The judging panel is made up of experts from several fields, representing BBVA, El Celler de Can Roca, and the BETA Technological Centre, an independent research centre based in Vic (Barcelona) that specialises in sustainable rural development and the transition towards a circular bioeconomy.
A new category was introduced in the seventh edition (2026), dedicated to initiatives developed in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. Its purpose is to promote rural development and recognise projects that strengthen local economies and rural businesses. The winner of this new category was Cooperativa Tararaina.
According to BBVA’s Head of SME Banking, these projects contribute to the transformation of Spain’s agri-food sector by “integrating sustainability into their business models in a real and measurable way.”
This perfectly reflects one of the core principles of Blueberries Cierrón: precision agriculture. By continuously collecting real-time data from the crop, the company can optimise the use of valuable resources such as organic fertilisers and water. Measuring every aspect of production with reliable data enables far more efficient farming practices, resulting in an even more sustainable and environmentally friendly production system.

VII BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca Awards for Sustainable Producers
The seventh edition recognised ten outstanding initiatives as Spain’s leading examples of environmental sustainability within organic agriculture.
Celega: Located in O Saviñao (Galicia), Celega is a dairy producer recognised not only for its premium-quality milk but also for its organic Cagliata cheese.
Porto-Muiños: Also based in Galicia, Porto-Muiños specialises in the organic production of seaweed, including its renowned organic sugar kelp (Kombu de Azúcar), as well as a wide range of other premium sea products.
Pago de La Jaraba: Based in El Provencio (Cuenca), Pago de La Jaraba received the award for its exceptional organic extra virgin olive oil.
Fundació Estel de Llevant: Located in Manacor (Mallorca, Balearic Islands), the foundation was recognised for combining organic food production with the social and labour inclusion of people living with mental health conditions.
Agroganadera La Tagarnina: Located in San José del Valle (Cádiz), this organic livestock farm goes beyond traditional organic farming by implementing regenerative livestock practices, producing premium organic beef mainly from Limousin cattle.
Ledesma Global – TUNOCANARIAS: Based in the Canary Islands, the company produces natural food supplements. One of its best-known products is the red prickly pear, a powerful natural antioxidant with numerous health benefits.
Cooperativa Tararaina – Ecoradiz: Located in the Lower Ebro Valley, the cooperative is reviving the traditional cultivation of organic liquorice using sustainable farming methods. The harvested liquorice is transformed into a variety of products, including sticks, blocks and powder for use in the food, hospitality, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
Biobosch Organics: Based in Marzà, Biobosch Organics specialises in producing several varieties of organic apples as part of a farming project built around sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Entrepeñas: Located in the province of León, Entrepeñas produces traditional cured meats, handcrafted and naturally air-cured in the mountain climate of León at an altitude of 1,200 metres.
Blueberries Cierrón (Arándanos el Cierrón): Blueberries Cierrón has been a leading blueberry producer since 1989. Today, the company applies advanced precision agriculture throughout its farms, using a comprehensive network of sensors to collect real-time crop data. This technology allows resources to be managed with exceptional efficiency, resulting in an even more sustainable and environmentally responsible production system in the heart of Asturias, Spain’s Natural Paradise.
What Are the Objectives of the BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca Awards?
These awards seek to increase the visibility of farmers, livestock producers and food producers while recognising the most sustainable, innovative and transformative projects within Spain’s agri-food sector.
Their main objective is to reward initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, modernisation, and rural development, while also encouraging healthier diets through locally produced food. By recognising these projects, the awards help small producers gain greater visibility, strengthen their businesses, and encourage generational renewal in a sector where succession is becoming increasingly challenging.
To ensure the credibility of the awards, the BETA Technological Centre acts as the independent technical office within the judging panel. Its role is to verify that each candidate’s sustainability claims are supported by measurable and auditable evidence rather than simply good intentions.
For all these reasons, Blueberries Cierrón is extremely proud to have been recognised in the VII BBVA – El Celler de Can Roca Awards. This prestigious national recognition will help increase the visibility of our project while reinforcing our commitment to developing agriculture that is increasingly efficient, digital, and environmentally sustainable.
