Can blueberries withstand the cold?

Yes, of course. Most varieties of blueberries and other red fruits or berries originate from areas with fairly cold winters. They can easily withstand temperatures as low as -20°C during the winter, when the plants are dormant; in some cases, they can even withstand temperatures as low as -30°C. Therefore, there is no place in Spain where blueberry plants cannot be grown due to cold weather. However, as there are some varieties suited to warmer climates, it is important that when you buy your blueberry plants, you choose varieties with a cold tolerance suitable for your area.
