1st GBA Plant Fair
Next weekend, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2026, the first edition of the Gijón Atlantic Botanical Garden Plant Fair will take place. This is a brand-new event featuring over 30 exhibitors from across Spain and Portugal, and Arándanos el Cierrón will of course be there.
This first edition will take place within the Botanical Garden, located on the outskirts of Gijón. As a major new feature, for the first time visitors will be able to explore La Finca de la Isla, a historic estate that has recently been incorporated into the Atlantic Botanical Garden.
New footpaths have been created for the occasion, so that everyone can access and connect areas such as the European Boreal Biome with the Plant Fair itself; this will make it really easy to stroll around and explore every corner of the Botanical Garden whilst also visiting all the exhibitors at the 1st Plant Fair.
In addition, the Maple Society of Europe, in collaboration with the Gijón Botanical Garden, is going to plant a display garden of around 100 m², a truly vast area, featuring some 20 varieties of maple.
Throughout the weekend, there will be talks, competitions, concerts, a food area and, of course, the sale and exhibition of ornamental, fruit and vegetable plants.
And when is the first edition of the Gijón Atlantic Botanical Garden Plant Fair taking place?
This first edition in 2026 will take place on 6 and 7 June, Saturday and Sunday respectively, with extended opening hours. Specifically, on Saturday it will be open from 11:00 to 20:00 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00.
What activities will there be during the Fair?
As we mentioned, there will be various activities during the event, including a flowerbed design competition in which eight of the exhibitors will take part, including Arándanos el Cierrón. For this, we will be creating a beautiful, colourful bed of red berries, using blueberries, Brazelberries, barberries, dogwoods and the odd unusual plant, which everyone attending the event will be able to see. A jury made up of members of the Friends of the Botanical Garden Association will be responsible for judging and selecting the winners for the best flowerbeds.
What can visitors expect to find during their visit?
At the Botanical Garden Plant Fair, you’ll find all kinds of plants, from collector’s items to kitchen garden and landscaping plants, including all sorts of soft fruits. But the Fair will also feature handcrafted goods, and you’ll be able to buy freshly picked organic blueberries from our farms in Villaviciosa.
But that’s not all: there will also be talks and concerts, along with a food area where you can sample all sorts of products.
How do you buy tickets for the 1st Plant Fair at the Atlantic Botanical Garden in Gijón?
To enter the Fair, you must purchase a ticket or pass for the Botanical Garden, which grants access to the Garden itself and to the areas where the 1st Plant Fair will take place and where the exhibitors are located. All the information can be found in the events calendar on the municipal website.
What surprises does Arándanos el Cierrón have in store for visitors?
In the specific case of Arándanos el Cierrón, we will be bringing a comprehensive selection of our soft-fruiting plants, including our famous large blueberry plants for immediate harvests, and the innovative Brazelberry varieties, which are the first blueberry plants to serve both an ornamental and a fruit-bearing purpose. We will also have lesser-known plants that are perfect for decorating our homes, patios or gardens all year round, such as dogwoods and barberries, which also produce fruits packed with antioxidants, very popular in the making of jams or sauces in other parts of Europe or the region of Ancient Persia.
And as a special treat, we’ll also be selling our freshly picked organic blueberries, available in 250 g, 500 g, and 1 kg cardboard tubs.
If you love plants, want to spend a few hours surrounded by nature in a stunning setting, discover Finca de la Isla for the first time and, whilst you’re at it, learn more about plants and how to care for them, this is the perfect plan for the weekend of 6 and 7 June. We look forward to seeing you all at the first edition of the Gijón Botanical Garden Plant Fair.
